During December 2015 and January 2016 I sailed aboard JOIDES Resolution, for Expedition 360 of the International Ocean Discovery Program. This expedition drilled 789 m into the seafloor of the Indian Ocean to investigate the composition of the lower ocean crust, search for deep microbial life, and start a hole which may one day be the first to reach the mantle.

Onboard the ship, I produced a podcast mini-series, A Hole in the Bottom of the Sea (listen here or subscribe on iTunes) and maintained a blog at joidesresolution.org

This expedition also received significant media attention and you may read more in Nature, Smithsonian Magazine, and at the BBC.
